Fourth World Farm

Pinon Salve

Fourth World Farm is a badass multi generational farm based in Mancos, CO that works with indigenous communities across the Southwest. They're inspiring work focuses on re-Indigenizing landscape, cultivating place, nourishing possibilities, and the emergent ecology between the Indigenous territories, Taw'toykyang and Dibe Nitsaa. This farm works to relearn and reintroduce local plants, herbs and medicines, to the food palate and medicine cabinet. Each winter they create “Winter Food and Medicine Boxes” through a subscription program. As the seasons change so does the cuisine. Through forging locally and preservation stashes, everything included in the boxes is harvested over the course of the last year, and three states (CO, AZ, and NM). This box subscription is uniquely crafted and includes goodies like Fire Roasted Prickly Pear Lemonade, Tanè'skááni Melon from winter preservation stashes, Chicken Rojo and Dinè Gray Squash w/Green Chile tamales, or a soup mix with wild carrot, steamed Diné corn desert onion, salt bush and chile de Arbol. Everything is harvested over the course of the last year, and between three states (CO, AZ, and NM). Oh and did I mention that Chef Carlos Baca is the one chefing up the menu of these wholesome super Indigenous food boxes?!

Each box also includes a salve or healing balm that is also locally harvested and filled with medicinal oils. Gretchen brews up medicines that and focuses on remedies to keep these plant medicines effective, accessible, and relevant.

As always, we encourage supporting your local farmers! Whether it’s at your local farmers market or through share boxes. Here are the basics: a farmer offers a certain number of "shares" to the public. Typically the share consists of a box of vegetables, but other farm products may be included. Folks Interested purchase a share (aka a "membership" or a "subscription") and in return receive a box (bag, basket) of seasonal produce each week throughout the farming season. Share members pay up front for the whole season and the farmers do their best to provide an abundant box of produce each week. Farm to table, local organic produce!

May we find healing in the depth of beauty, strength, generosity, and wisdom the land holds.

#SchoolsNOTPrisons!

#SchoolsNotPrisons is contributing to a growing movement for shifting public spending from punishment to education and creating solidarity among communities on the frontlines of ending mass incarceration. Since 2016, #SchoolsNotPrisons has reached millions of people and connected hundreds of artists with grassroots, youth-serving organizations across the United States. #SchoolsNotPrisons supports local, grassroots campaigns that are creating a new vision of safety centered on health, healing and investing in people. SNP has worked on bills in the California Legislature that proposes creative ways to fund early childhood education: imposing a tax on companies that do business with California’s prison systems. Brilliant right? Social science has consistently found data on education achievement — particularly drop-out rates — to be a strong indicator of who ends up behind bars. Other factors, such as income, mental health and substance abuse, all figure prominently as drivers of crime. But schools, like prisons, are a major budget item for most state, making it convenient to compare the two. #SchoolsNotPrisons promotes non-violence and activism by young people and their families. They encourage voting as a key for communities committed to safety, justice and peace to join in solidarity to make change. The slogans vary: “Books not bars, “schools not prisons,” even “educate not incarcerate”, No matter which way you say, we’re for it!
