It Begins In Beauty

Manifesting Your Dream Work

by Nicolle L Gonzales, Navajo Midwife

Whether you are in your creative zone or following the principles of Diné philosophy of learning and living, bringing ideas into the physical world can look different for us all. Do you remember that exact moment when the seed was planted in your heart that maybe one day you wanted to become a birth helper? What did that feel like? What went through your mind? Were your senses heightened and suddenly you felt alive? Or did this sudden awareness just sit with you for a while, while you checked in with your spirit about what you were feeling?

While this process of aligning with your life purpose as a birth worker can take many paths, know that it is sacred work that will transform you. Like the beginning of a prayer, this dream work that you are bringing into the physical world has the potential to help many people and that is a gift. The beauty in this, is that you have answered a sacred calling and one perhaps only you understand. Holding onto this vision and making an actual plan to follow through is another aspect of the work that could feel impossible, out of reach even, but it is possible even if you don’t have a clear map yet of how to do it.

This is where it’s important to offer your prayers to the Holy Ones, for guidance, clarity, focus, and for these things you are wanting for yourself and your community. What few understand about the role and path of an indigenous midwife, is our work is tied to our ceremonies. Making that offering to the Holy Ones is necessary and the beginning of your initiation process to do this sacred work. The guidance that you seek may not come from the physical world, but the spiritual one.

Manifesting your dream work doesn’t happen overnight and if you think about the vibrations that your body emits when you have done the internal work to change how you think, live, work in relationship to the land and community, it does flow outward and around you for the better. This stage of change isn’t always visible, but you are moving forward with your goals and intentions. It’s important to have patience with your own creative process, remember you are working within your own ceremonial timeline.
