Healing the Land Healing the Water

IMG-9230.png

This summer's workplan includes cleaning up as many illegal trash dumps in my hometown of St Michaels AZ. To heal the land we plant sunflower gardens. Sunflowers are not only beautiful but the detoxify soil. Illegal trash dumps are primarily in watersheds. Any water run off from the Chuska's is automatically contaminated with the toxins in the trash dumps. Some of these trash dumps are decades old!

In my research I learned that 30-40 years ago my grandfather tried to start this project but was stopped at the chapter level. I am proud to carry on the work of my chei. I am also proud to do it without the help of the chapter. Other solution based plans we have to heal the land is building bread ovens, sweat lodges, erosion control swells and gabions and lastly a traditional Diné hogan but with Straw-bale. The hope is to help create a model to build sustainable affordable housing for with and for one another. The Kick off of this work is June 16, 2018. As a agenda for each week's projects unfolds I will add updates! COME LEARN WITH US!
